Richard Jones' Log: On the uptake of Python's Package Index

Wed, 17 Aug 2005

Scanning through the Daily Python-URL just now, I noticed that all the package-release links are to freshmeat. None are to PyPI. What's also interesting is that the set of packages noted on the Python-URL list is not the same as the set recently annouced on PyPI. Hurm.

Hey Richard.

Just some notes about my recent first use of the cheese shop. Pretty easy process all up!

I subscribe to the rss, so don't need to look at the daily url for all the cheese.

setup.py register seems to be broken.

The fields in the web form are not described. Allthough they are mostly easy enough to guess what each is for.

The PKGINFO link seems to be broken.

Freshmeat
shows how many hits, and downloads there are for the release. It's also *the* place for all OSS releases in general.

Cheer.

I'm sure the cheese shop would get a huge boost in usage the moment it becomes possible to install Python packages a la CPAN.
