24 Hour Comic. Honest

Things I learnt spending 24 hours creating a comic book:
Talking heads are the hardest pictures to draw and the dullest to look at and by avoiding them you can come up with much better solutions.
Start with just one idea and let it grow.
If you sleep for six hours you won't finish.
Go straight to ink. I hardly erased anything I drew in pencil - there's no time to overthink panel design - and anything I did try to redraw got worse.

So, yeah, I finished the story and all the pencilling, but did not have time to ink. Which bites because it's so pale no one can read it and it can't be photocopied yet. I'll probably scan it and stick up here somewhere once it's done, so hold on to your horses.

Until then have a look at this excerpt from Everything Bad is Good For You by Steven Johnson and be comforted by what you're learning by watching tv. I can't wait to read the rest. (via Boing Boing)

You can come too, too, too...

Objects of interest. Maybe.

To make up for the lack of satisfaction you got with that last entry, here are some things I have found interesting recently:

The BlogHer conference later this year will provide an open, inclusive forum to:
1. Discuss the role of women within the larger blog community
2. Examine the developing (and debatable) code of blogging ethics
3. Discover how blogging is shrinking the world and amplifying the voices of women worldwide

A row of naked backs painted like Pink Floyd covers. (via anthony)

I just finished reading The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and The Name of the Game by Will Eisner and they were both excellent in a way that prods at my inner being to say, "You. You could be doing this too."

Savvy Seams, a generous and detailed set of free sewing patterns with modern flair.

And finally, but most importantly, your bionic suit will be ready shortly. (blogged everywhere.)

Surfacing for air.

Not surfacing in an elegant whale kind of way, but a thrashing, coughing, skinny white chick who never learnt to swim properly kind of way.
I'm trying to do too many things at once and am achieving nothing.
Self-defeating.
Gah.
